About

Hi! My name is Opeoluwa Oyewole. I am currently a 5th-year Ph.D. student at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, investigating protein-protein interactions during Chikungunya virus (a mosquito-transmitted virus) infection. The goal is to identify host-based targets for treating infections.

Outside of the lab, I love reading (listening to?) books and listening to podcasts. I also really like cooking, baking, and eating and I’m currently obsessed with Asian cuisine (Chef Ranveer’s Dhaba chicken, I see you!). On the occasional day that I Netflix binge, you’ll probably find me watching Chef (for the third time), The Chef Show, or Happy Endings. Music-wise, I’m still listening to Jacob Banks, Dermot Kennedy, Johnnyswim, Adekunle Gold, or Simi. I recently discovered KAMAUU and I’m loving his work. These days, Adele’s new album is on repeat too.

I’ve been wanting to write online for a few years but didn’t because I didn’t think I knew enough to write and I worried that what I had to say maybe won’t make sense. But here we are! I guess those thoughts have started to sound old even to me, so again, here we are. My plans for this blog include for it to be a space where I can think and reflect on my journey as a scientist, share my passions and what I’m learning and dream and make connections for now.
